Lead Director

I am thrilled to be part of the Ascent Academies team and to play a role in bringing another choice in education to families in Utah. I am a firm believer that there is plenty of room in education for all kinds of schools – district, private, parochial, homeschool, and of course charter. I believe that choices in education bring benefits to students, teachers, and families.

This year marks my 26th year of working professionally in the field of education.  I have been involved with charter schools for the past 18 years, after returning to Utah from England, where I was teaching in the British school system while my wife completed her graduate degree. Ascent Academies is the third charter school I have helped to open and I find a lot of energy, excitement, and satisfaction in being involved with a “start-up” project. Prior to “discovering” charter schools, I worked in both private and district schools, teaching a wide range of age groups and classes ranging from A.P. classes to teaching 1st graders. I have also instructed at the university level as an adjunct professor.

I know that children learn best when they are engaged and are enjoying themselves. Ascent Academies' commitment to the SEM approach, as well as our commitment to attracting and retaining master teachers, ensures that students stay engaged in learning and thereby experience academic success as well as establish a firm love of learning.

I graduated from BYU with a B.A. Degree in Secondary Education and a M.A. Degree in Teaching & Learning. I successfully completed the Educational Leadership: Administration & Supervision Praxis Exam, used nationwide as a standard for school administration licensure. In my free time, I enjoy long walks with my wife and two adult children, as well as hiking, camping, traveling, scuba diving, woodworking, pickleball, cooking, going to the movies, and laughing. I love to laugh every single day!
